Arbaeen
Gathering is a highly participated ceremonial event occurring every
year in the West Asian country of Iraq by a wide variety of nations.
Starting from the city of Najaf and ending in the city of Karbala,
millions of people walk through this 80 km long path, leading to a 30
million strong gathering in the destination at Karbala on the day of
“Arbaeen” to mark this day as a day of allegiance to Imam Hussain’s holy
and valuable goals. In Arabic, Arbaeen means “the 40th” and it is named
after the 40th day after Imam Hussain’s martyrdom. And Hussain is God’s
last prophet’s grandson, who was beheaded thirsty on the banks of
Euphrates River in Karbala by the hands of tyrant of the time Yazid. And
Arbaeen Gathering in Karbala, a commemoration now occuring on an annual
basis for about 1.5 of a millennium since Hussain’s martyrdom in 680
AD, still inspires people of all ranks to head to it in their tens of
millions from all across the world
